How we began
Camelliafield was founded in 2009 by Mei-Lin Tsai and James Kuo after a decade of working inside and alongside family-owned manufacturers in central Taiwan. Mei-Lin had spent eight years as an in-house counsel for a textile group; James had managed operations for a third-generation food distribution company. They kept meeting owners who faced the same pattern: the business had outgrown informal decision-making, but no one wanted to be the person who raised it at Sunday dinner.
The firm started with weekend governance workshops for owner families in Taichung and Tainan. By 2012, demand shifted toward longer engagements — structured reviews, succession roadmaps, and coaching for family members stepping into leadership. Today Camelliafield works with firms in manufacturing, food processing, maritime supply, retail, and professional services, typically employing between 15 and 250 people.
Who we work with
Our clients are family-run enterprises where ownership, management, and household boundaries overlap. Most are in their second or third generation. They come to us when a specific decision is approaching — a leadership handover, a cousin joining the board, a dispute over dividend policy — or when years of informal arrangements have started to create friction.
We do not serve as legal counsel or accountants. We work alongside your existing advisers, translating family dynamics into governance structures that can be documented, discussed, and maintained.
Our approach
Every engagement begins with listening. We visit your premises, attend relevant meetings where invited, and interview stakeholders individually before proposing any framework. Recommendations are written in plain language, with implementation steps your family can act on without us — though many clients retain us for quarterly check-ins during transition periods.
We believe family firms succeed when roles are clear, conflicts have a agreed forum, and the next generation is prepared rather than surprised. Our work is practical, grounded in Taiwanese business culture, and respectful of the relationships that make these companies worth preserving.

Values we hold
- Confidentiality — What is shared in interviews stays within the engagement team unless you authorise otherwise.
- Neutrality — We do not take sides between family members; we help the group find workable agreements.
- Plain language — Reports and recommendations avoid jargon so every stakeholder can participate.
- Local context — We understand Taiwanese family business norms, holiday schedules, and the role of senior generation respect in decision-making.
